A perfect life as an artist would be like now. Totally free of any nonsense of daily life, no work, no client, no rent, no phone call from other people except from lover, family & friends. The only thing is I have to keep reminding myself that this is not a vacation. Focus, focus!

Thanks to CPW (Center for Photography at Woodstock), I’m doing my first residency here, for a month!

I live in a house that’s 15min walk to CPW with another artist Yamini Nayar. There are alot of deers in this area, everyday a deer friend will come to visit us.

I’ve been taking a book making workshop from Ann Lovett for the past 4 days. After trying to avoid book making for all these years, I finally made my first book, & absolutely love it! The last 2 days of the workshop was held at Women Studio Workshop at Rosendale, NY, 30min drive from Woodstock. I love the atmosphere there.

All the women work there enjoy lunch together at the balcony. They have a great chef!!!

It has been the best week of my life, not worrying about things or people, but just concerntrating on being myself. My life had been so busy that I didn’t even have time to just breathe or stare at the stars or think about the things I wanna do. It’s great to have a break.

I’m included in Arario Gallery’s summer show Irrelevant: Local Emerging Asian Artists Who Don’t Make Work About Being Asian. Very excited, it’s my first time in Chelsea. Thanks to Rona Chang who introduced me to the show.

Irrelevant: Local Emerging Asian Artists Who Don’t Make Work About Being Asian

July 1 – August 6th, 2010
Opening Reception July 1st, 6-8pm

Performances & Workshops every Thursday for the duration of the exhibition

Arario Gallery is very proud to present Irrelevant: Local Emerging Asian Artists Who Don’t Make Work About Being Asian, an ambitious survey exhibition featuring the work of nearly fifty artists curated by Joann Kim and Lesley Sheng.

Artists: Seong Min Ahn, Shin Young An, Sophia Chai, Louis Chan, Karen Chan, Rona Chang, Gigi Chen, Yoon Cho, Micah Ganske, Hyoungsun Ha, Geujin Han, Takashi Horisaki, Jane V Hsu, Hidenori Ishii, Hong Seon Jang, Kyoung Eun Kang, Heige Kim, Seung Ae Kim, Nancy Kim, Hein Koh, Shizuka Kusayanagi, Amy Fung-yi Lee & Caroline Jung-ah Park, JaeEun Lee, Sinae Lee, Soo Im Lee, Jiyoun Lee-Lodge, Yijun Liao, Juri Morioka, Tadashi Moriyama, Joel Morrison, Dominic Neitz, Christian Nguyen, Asuka Osawa, Eung Ho Park, Youngna Park, Jung Eun Park, R&D, Ruijun Shen, Satomi Shirai, Hidemi Takagi, Tattfoo Tan, Kikuko Tanaka, Jason Tomme, Mai Ueda, Kako Ueda, InJoo Whang, Wenjie Yang, Mika Yokobori, Yejin Yoo, Jayoung Yoon, Seldon Yuan

I’m very glad that I can be a part of this show, because it’s sort of a protest from young Asian artists.

Irrelevant is a friendly and humorous, and somewhat ridiculous, rejection of a neurotic art market and its obsession with specifying artists to a particular culture and ethnicity. This exhibition purifies and de-labels the artist as Asian, by labeling the artist as Asian, to be shown inside a contemporary Asian art gallery.

More press release on Arario Gallery blog.

I’m opening a new Mandarin class with Queens Museum of Art’s New New Yorker Program. This time, I’m teaching Contemporary Art Photography based on Charlotte Cotton’s famous book “The Photography as Contemporary Art” with an emphasis on Chinese photography.
最近我在皇后区美术馆新开了一个摄影课程。这次我主要介绍的是当代艺术摄影，参考书目是Charlotte Cotton写的The Photography as Contemporary Art，当中侧重中国的摄影。
我已经把课程内容同步到了拜师网上，有兴趣可以一起去看看，参加讨论。http://www.72ren.com/viewAsTeacher.action?&userId=30
